Suh Yongsun expresses the philosophical and historical problem about our reality. Starting with the painting series ‘Pine Tree’ in the early 1980s, Suh began to explore the unknowns of beyond through objects in reality. From the mid-1980s to the present, he has explored humans through real images encountered in his daily life or imaginary images dealing with historical situations. His unique visual language, such as intense colors contrast, bold brush strokes, exaggerated perspective, and full screen composition, makes his works contain certain metaphors to express his thoughts and feelings about reality and human beings. Suh stimulates us to think about ourselves and the surrounding real world that is not actually visible in front of us by metaphorizing contemporary times through distorted expressions, rather than showing the reality as it is.
